The popular singer Trey Songz, 37, is facing a serious allegation of rape. According to a lawsuit filed in the Los Angeles Stanley Mosk Courthouse a woman only named as “Jane Doe” is accusing the singer whose legal name is Tremaine Aldon Neverson of attacking her.
The lawsuit claims that although she was involved in a consensual relationship with the singer, she went to a house party Songz put on at his home back in March of 2016.
That is when things turned violent.
The woman claims she was invited to a private room on the upper level of the home where Songz made some extremely aggressive requests to engage in anal sex with her. She rejected his advances by saying “No!”
Now in the United States simply saying no to sexual advances means that the sexual act should not and can’t happen. If it is forced anyway, then that is legally called rape.
The woman says Songz became enraged by her rejection, so he allegedly physically assaulted her by throwing her to the floor, ripping off her clothes as though he were some sort of angry wild animal, and then continuing with his intended sexual act of penetrating her anus with his penis.
The ordeal was emotionally and physically painful to her, so she pleaded with him to please stop, but he didn’t.
After she survived this horrific attack she got a ride to the Providence Joseph Medical Center Emergency Care Unit in Burbank, California where she received a complete sexual assault exam.
The exam revealed results that were consistent with what would be expected for this form of sexual assault, but no details were released from the hospital due to patient privacy.
So far, Songz is denying the allegations brought against him.
I have reached out to Attorney George James Vrabeck who according to court records is the attorney for “Jane Doe,” but have not received a response to the case yet.
Right now, the case is civil in nature, but that could change.
No word on any talks of an out of court settlement agreement.
So, what could the charges and punishments be if Songz case is bound over to criminal court?
According to Penal Code 261 PC in the State of California rape is a felony.
The sentencing guidelines are as follows if someone is found guilty of rape:
- Up to eight (8) years in the State of California Department of Corrections.
- Possibly an additional 3-5 years in prison if the victim suffered great bodily harm because of the attack.
- In most cases it is mandatory that the offender register for rest of their life on the National Sex Offender Registry.
If you are a victim of any form of sexual assault, then you don’t have to suffer in silence because there is free confidential help available.
Please call the National Sexual Assault Telephone Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) or click on the link above to be connected to the website for more information.
To protect your legal rights, it is very important that you do the following things after an attack:
- Do not dispose of anything related to the attack.
- Do not wash anything including your clothes, hair, hands, and body.
- Report the attack to local law enforcement as soon as possible.
- Report to the nearest emergency room for prompt medical treatment.
